BCKYRD
One of my favorite songs BCKYRD, off of the album “you’ll be fine” by Hot Mulligan, recounts the struggles of growing up.
In an interview with AltPress, vocalist Tades Sanville said:
Our parents would always say “it would get better” or “you’ll be fine.” And then it got even harder. It left me with the impression that growing up meant things would inherently make more sense. That was wrong. Life is super difficult, and the only time we could actually not care about anything and just send it was when we were kids. Playing in the backyard.
When you think flowers have bloomed, they’re really just weeds and the only time people were really happy was playing in the backyard with our childhood pets without a care in the world–while the grass and the spiderwebs grow up next to us. Capturing this snapshot in time as an ode to childhood holds a special place in my heart, as this project was created at a transitional point in my life, the end of my college career.
Alongside the main single cover, there is a simple alternate option- useful for the back print of a shirt or just the reverse side of the single. The mirror image illustration is another homage to the full album, featuring the man with the floating headwear with his trusted dog at his side.
